NKU student-athletes post 3.25 department GPA in Spring 2017

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – For the 12th-straight semester, Northern Kentucky University's student athletes posted a department GPA of 3.0 or higher, registering a 3.25 GPA in the Spring 2017 semester. Additionally, 45 student-athletes earned degrees from NKU at commencement ceremonies on May 7.

For the last six semesters, Norse student-athletes have combined for a 3.20 GPA or better. This past semester, 10 of NKU's 15 sport programs had team GPAs over 3.20. Women's tennis posted a department-best 3.70 team GPA followed by volleyball (3.67), women's soccer (3.56) and men's tennis (3.38).

Twenty-nine student-athletes recorded a 4.0 GPA, which accounts for nearly 13 percent of NKU student-athletes, while 69 percent (160 total) had at least a 3.0 GPA.
Additionally, 59 individuals -approximately 26 percent of NKU student-athletes- were placed on the Dean's List. Twenty-seven athletes earned President's Honors, which recognizes student-athletes with a 4.0 who attempt 12 or more credit hours.

In the College of Informatics, Sarah Kellam (women's golf) was named both a University Honor Scholar and to the Labmda Pi Eta honor society. Katelyn Newton (women's soccer) garnered the Biology Education Award. Christina Spears (women's soccer) earned University Honor Scholar status in the College of Arts and Sciences, while Kelley Wiegman (women's basketball) was recognized by the college's Gamma Sigma Epsilon society and Samantha Davis (women's soccer) was honored as a member of Project Soar.*

Three Norse received recognition as the most outstanding students in their discipline by the Haile/US Bank College of Business. Yasmine Xantos (women's tennis), a double major in sports business and account, was named both the outstanding undergraduate student and outstanding student in sports business. Xantos' teammate Klara Skopac and Lukas Clemens (men's tennis) shared honors as the outstanding student in finance.
