HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's tennis snapped a three-match losing skid with an expeditious 6-1 win over Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, NKU moves to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in Horizon League play, while the Crusaders dropped to 1-13 (0-4 HL).
Match Notables
- The Norse had the match clinched within the first four points, with wins in doubles along with the top three singles matches.
- In doubles, Danielle Donahue and Yasmine Xantos got things off on the right foot with a 6-2 win over Morgan Paras and Dao Sysouvanh. NKU's top pairing of Klara Skopac and Margita Sunjic clinched the opening point with a 6-4 win against Kathleen Hebble and Paige Heuer.
- Sunjic was the first to complete singles action, as the reigning HL Player of the Week extended her straight-set winning streak to six matches with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hebble at the top of the lineup.
- Skopac also gave up just two games in her No. 2 singles match, taking down Heuer in a 6-2, 6-0 decision.
- Sydney Power provided the clinching point in No. 3 singles with matching 6-3 sets over Meg Modesto.
- The Norse also won the No. 4 and 5 singles matches. Katja Dijanezevic won over Jordan Kopfer in the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-4, while Donahue had an impressive effort in the No. 5 slot. Donahue faced three set points against Dao Sysouvanh, down 5-2, but rallied back to win five straight games and take a 7-5 opening set before closing out the match with a 6-3 second set.
- NKU continues action tomorrow, when the Norse host UIC. The women's match will begin at 11 a.m. ET from Yeager Tennis Complex, with the men's match to follow.
