NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Northern Kentucky's women's tennis started off its East Coast trip on the right foot, blanking Fairfield in a 7-0 victory. With the win, the Norse advance to 2-3 on the season while the Stags fall to 2-7.
Match Notables
- NKU did not drop a single set throughout the entire match, starting with a sweep in doubles action. Danielle Donahue and Yasmine Xantos teamed up to take down Diana Prinos and Shelby Vertula, 6-4, in the No. 3 doubles slot for the first win of the day and set the team up for its victory. The doubles point was secured with a 6-2 win from Sierra Nellessen and Katja Dijanezevic over Nicole Aragones and Jessica Pil in No. 2 doubles before Margita Sunjic and Klara Skopac posted a 6-4 win in No. 1 doubles over Sarah Stuhlmann and Emily Lombardi.
- Skopac provided the first singles win for the Norse, taking down Diana Prinos in a 6-4, 6-3 victory in No. 2 singles.
- Sunjic had a similarly dominant outing in the No. 1 slot with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stuhlmann.
- The match was clinched by Donahue in No. 4 singles, who blanked Vertula in the opening set before holding on for a 7-5 win in the second set.
- The Norse finished out with straight-set victories in No. 3, 5 and 6 singles. Dijanezevic claimed a 6-0, 6-4 win over Pil, Nellessen took down Lombardi in matching 6-4 sets, and Xantos capped off the match with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Karen McKeough.
- NKU plays Hofstra tomorrow, March 10, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
