@NKUNorseMBB earns 15-seed, faces No. 2 Kentucky in NCAA tourney

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball team earned the No. 15 seed in the South region of the NCAA Division I Championship and will play No. 2-seeded Kentucky in Indianapolis.

NKU and Kentucky will play in the March 17/19 (Friday/Sunday) games. Game-time is not immediately available.

In just its first season eligible to compete in the NCAA DI tourney, NKU received the Horizon League's automatic berth after winning the league tournament with a 59-53 decision over Milwaukee in Detroit last Tuesday. The Norse became just seventh team all-time and only the second program since 1970 to qualify for the NCAA championship in their first year eligible.

Northern Kentucky is 24-10 on the season and has been on quite a streak to close the season, winning six-in-a-row and 12 of its last 14 games.

Kentucky earned the automatic bid from the Southeastern Conference after taking down Arkansas in Sunday afternoon's SEC title game. The Wildcats hold a 29-5 record and have won 11-straight games.
