OCEANSIDE, N.Y. – Northern Kentucky's women's tennis wrapped up its East Coast trip with a 5-2 win over Hofstra on Friday evening, going undefeated on the weekend. With the win, NKU moves to 3-3 on the season, while the Pride dropped to 4-8.
Match Notables
- The Norse had a hard-fought doubles point with the deciding match going extra games. After Danielle Donahue and Klara Skopac secured a 6-2 win in No. 1 doubles and Sierra Nellessen and Katja Dijanezevic fell in No. 2 doubles, the opening point rested on the pairing of Margita Sunjic and Yasmine Xantos. The Norse duo outlasted Carmen Pestano and Giulia Leone in a 7-6 victory, taking the tiebreak game, 8-6.
- NKU's top four singles lineups secured straight-set wins over their opponents.
- Sunjic was the first to score for the Norse with a matching 6-1 win over D'Asha Davis in the No. 1 slot.
- Dijanezevic was the next to secure a win for NKU, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jasmine King in No. 2 singles.
- Skopac blanked Sarah Catherine Herndon in the opening set of No. 2 singles, and held her off in the second set for a 7-5 win to clinch the match for the Norse.
- Donahue also secured a win in the final match of the evening, winning over Pestano with a 7-6(5) battle in the opening set before capping off the match with a 6-2 second-set win.
- NKU travels to Louisville on March 17, taking on the Cardinals at noon.
