CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky men's tennis defeated its second straight opponent in a clinch victory, taking down Chattanooga, 4-2. With the win, the Norse move to 3-2 on the season, while the Mocs fall to 1-6.
Match Notables
- NKU dropped a tight doubles point, with the deciding set in No. 3 doubles following a win in the No. 1 slot and a loss in the No. 2 slot going extra games. The Norse lineup fell to the Mocs, 7-5, to give Chattanooga the early lead.
- Andrew Niehaus provided the equalizer with a quick dismantling of Pablo Llebeili in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-4. The Norse then used a straight set victory from Mate Virag in the No. 1 spot to take a 2-1 lead over the Mocs. Like Niehaus, Virag had a fast start to his match, taking down Lucas Plesky 6-1 in the opening set before sealing the win in the second, 6-4.
- After the Mocs took the No. 5 singles match, NKU took the lead for good with a pair of three-set wins. In No. 3 singles, Court Clark edged out Nic Wilson in extra games, 7-5, before falling 6-1 in the second. Clark bounced back quickly, with a 6-1 third set.
- Blaine Carr provided the clinching point for the Norse over Max Grobbelaar in No. 6 singles. Carr took the first set, 6-1, before dropping the second, 3-6. In the deciding set, Carr battled for a 6-4 win to close out action for NKU.
- Virag and Clark went undefeated in singles this weekend, picking up wins against both Dayton and Chattanooga.
- The Norse return to action in two weeks, taking on Thomas More College on Friday, Feb. 24. First serve against the Saints is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET from Five Seasons Sport Club in Crestview Hills, Ky.
