HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team opened up the 2017-18 season with an impressive 94-55 exhibition win over Asbury on Saturday afternoon. The Norse had 10 players score in the contest, with seven reaching double figures.
STAT LEADERS
- Molly Glick led the team with 13 points in the game.
- Freshmen Grace White and Grayson Rose got their collegiate careers off to a strong start, as each contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.
- Kailey Coffey just missed out on a double-double, with 10 points and eight rebounds in the contest.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The Norse started the game with an 8-2 run and led 29-17 at the end of the first quarter.
- NKU shot 11-of-20 (55.0%) from the floor in the first period.
- The Norse were aggressive on the boards early, as the team recorded 15 rebounds in the first quarter, which included eight offensive rebounds. NKU finished the half with 25 rebounds, with 14 of them being on the offensive end.
- The Norse had a 14-12 point advantage in the second period to take a 43-29 lead into the half
- NKU's shooting percentage dipped in the second quarter, as the Norse went 6-of-16 (37.5%) from the floor in the period.
- The team did not concede a single free throw in the opening 20 minutes of play.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- NKU began the second half of action with a 7-0 run, which was capped by Molly Glick's layup with 7:55 remaining in the quarter. The Norse outscored Asbury 22-10 in the quarter and had a 65-39 lead at the end of the third period.
- NKU's defense stifled Asbury in the third quarter, holding the Eagles to 2-of-13 shooting in the period.
- The Norse continued to dominate in the fourth quarter, as the team had a 29-16 advantage.
- NKU made 13 field goals in the final quarter of action and shot 54.1 percent from the floor in the period.
