HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball head coach
Camryn Whitaker has announced the addition of six athletes who will be joining the team for the 2017-18 season.
"We are going to become a lot longer," noted first-year head coach Whitaker. "We're signing six-three, six-one, six-two, a lot of size in this class. I'm excited about that. They can really run and they're skilled. That type of play is going to really benefit us, because that's how we want to play. We want to get up and down the floor and we want to transition. We want to be able to get up and use our length to defend some more and put some more pressure defensively. So that's why this class really excites me. It brings us some size, which is something we lack right now."
The signing class includes Reece Mungar, a 6-foot-1 forward from Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada; Grayson Rose, a 6-foot-3 forward out of Garretsville, Ohio; Jazmyne Geist, a 5-foot-11 forward out of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Grace White, a 5-foot-9 guard out of Leitchfield, Kentucky; Chyna Anthony, a 6-foot-1 forward out of New Albany, Indiana; and Kailey Coffey, a 5-foot-10 guard from Russel Springs, Kentucky.
Whitaker says that the strength of the recruiting class is that they can fill in at multiple positions on the floor. "We're trying to put together a group of players and a team where we have versatility and depth at each position, because we want to run. We want to get up and down the floor. In order to play that pace, you have to have players that can rotate in and you don't lose much from the bench. What I think our class is going to add to us is just that, versatility and depth."
More information on each player will be available in the coming days, as each signee will have her own installment in a six-part series. The signing series begins tomorrow with Mungar.
