@NKUNorseWBB Signing Day: Reece Mungar

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Canadian prospect Reece Mungar signed with the Northern Kentucky women's basketball team yesterday, adding size and international experience to the guard and forward position for the Norse.

Mungar hails from Stoney Creek, Ontario, and plays for Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School under coach Kevin Daly, as well as Transway JUEL in the club season under coach Richard Nurse. The 6-foot-1 talent has garnered Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic honors and is a two-time team MVP for the Bishop Ryan Celtics after leading the team in scoring in both 2014 and 2015.

"We saw Reece in July when we were recruiting in the first half of the month," noted head coach Camryn Whitaker. "Obviously, her work ethic is her number one skill. She works extremely hard. She's a nearly-six-foot-two guard who can play a four, but I see us playing her at the three or four position. She's very skilled. She can shoot the ball, she runs the floor, she sees the floor well in transition, she's a good passer and I'm just extremely excited about that and about her versatility. I think that's the biggest thing that she brings to us."

Last year for the Celtics, Mungar averaged almost 20 points per game to go with more than 11 rebounds a game. At the club level, Mungar helped Team Ontario to a silver medal at the national U-15 championship in Edmonton, and was recently named a US Junior National Championship pool all-star.

Mungar comes from a basketball family, as her father, Barry, is a hall of famer at St. Bonaventure, a former professional for the Washington Bullets and in Italy, and a 1988 Olympian with the Canadian basketball team.

NKU's signing day series continues tomorrow with Ohio native Grayson Rose.
