HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's student-athletes continue to elevate their performances in the classroom, recording a cumulative 3.24 GPA this past fall and establishing a new school-record for student-athlete GPA for the second-time in the last three semesters.
This marks the third-straight semester with at least a 3.2 GPA for NKU's student-athletes and ninth-straight semester with at least a 3.0.
"Our student-athletes continue to find ways to improve, whether it's on the court or in the classroom," said
Debbie Kirch, Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services. "A third-straight semester with a GPA of at least 3.2 is a testament to their character, work ethic and determination to be the best they can be."
Of Northern Kentucky's 17 athletics programs, 14 of them had a cumulative GPA over 3.0. Volleyball led the way for the second semester in a row with a 3.69. Women's (3.62) and men's tennis (3.60) and women's cross country (3.53) posted team GPAs above 3.5.
Twenty-three student-athletes, approximately 10 percent of those at NKU, achieved perfect 4.0 GPA's and were named to the President's Honors List. An additional 49 student-athletes posted individual GPAs of 3.6-3.99 to earn Dean's List recognition.
Nearly 70 percent of the student-athletes had at least a 3.0 GPA.
"Northern Kentucky has always been committed to providing the highest-quality education to its student-athletes," stated
Ken Bothof, Director of Athletics. "Not only have we continued that commitment since beginning the reclassification process to Division I, we reaffirmed that priority in our strategic plan
Uprising. As evidenced by a second record-setting GPA in the last three semesters, our student-athletes, coaches and administration have embraced academics as one of our core values."
