Strategic plan Uprising unveiled for Norse

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Director of Athletics Ken Bothof announced the release of NKU's athletics strategic plan Uprising.

An uprising is an act or instance of rising up; an ascent. That term encapsulates the direction of Norse Athletics, and, as the research was conducted, became a clear inspiration for the strategic plan.

Focusing on NKU's continued climb into NCAA Division I and the Horizon League, Northern Kentucky's mission, vision and values are accompanied in the plan by eight strategic priorities – Integrity, Accountability & Compliance; Academic Achievement; Student-Athlete Well-Being; Competitive Excellence; Facility Enhancement; Campus & Community Engagement; Resource Development & Fiscal Management; and, Brand Awareness.

"Our Uprising strategic plan is structured to share the vision and plan that will lead to a successful athletics department in the Division I landscape," stated Bothof. "Our six core values – integrity, student-athlete well-being, excellence, inclusiveness, university engagement and community interaction – served as the compass to navigate us through this process and you will see their impact throughout the plan."

Bothof explained that full-time athletics staff members, head coaches, student-athletes and a wide variety of both University and community constituents had input into the planning process. After the priorities emerged during the planning phase, goals were established for each priority, and a list of objectives and action items were created to ensure those goals are achieved.

The complexity and ever-changing nature of college athletics demands that strategic plans be comprehensive yet fluid. This plan will be used as a guide for Norse Athletics over a five-year span in its rise through Division I.
