CARTAGO, Costa Rica – Three players reached double figures to help the Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team close out its three-game series against the Costa Rica national team with a 69-38 victory.
Christine Roush led the way with 14 points and four steals, while newcomers
Rebecca Lyttle and
Molly Glick each chipped in 12 points. Kasey Uetretcht pitched in seven points and a team-best nine rebounds.
"We went rafting yesterday, zip lining this morning and ran a youth clinic before tonight's game," said head coach
Dawn Plitzuweit, who has also seen her team play three games over a 72-hour span. "We started a little sluggish, but it was great to see the ladies battle back. We picked things up in the second quarter and continued with that energy and intensity throughout the rest of the game."
The Norse committed 12 turnovers throughout the game, but just three in the second half, including a turnover-free third quarter.
"We saw different players step up on both ends of the court in these three games, that is going to be vital for us this season," added Plitzuweit. "I am extremely proud that our ladies played hard and gave their best effort both on the court and in community service projects this week.
"Now we have a few days to bond as a team outside of game action, and we're all very excited about that fact."
The Norse will remain in Costa Rica through Thursday before returning home for the beginning of the fall semester next week. The 2015-16 season will begin in mid-November.
