HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY. – Brett Cisper struck out 10 batters and only allowed two runs in a complete-game effort for the Northern Kentucky University baseball team in the nightcap of a doubleheader, but it was not enough to avoid the series sweep against Marshall, as the Thundering Herd posted a 2-1 win over the Norse on Sunday afternoon at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.

Marshall, which improved to 7-7 with the two wins, scored the first run of the game in the first inning, but NKU responded in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 1-all.

With one out, Quint Heady reached on a throwing error by third baseman Gray Stafford and proceeded to steal second.  Brad Clement drew a walk, followed by a single through the right side by Cody Kuzniczci to bring Heady home and even the score.

A sacrifice fly by Nathan Gomez scored Sergio Leon in the top of the third inning to give the Thundering Herd a 2-1 lead, and that was all the Marshall offense would need to secure the win.

Zac Asman hit a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Norse, looking for another late-inning rally.  Conor Ledger grounded into a double play to end the game, dropping NKU to 2-12 on the season.

Andrew Dundon led the Marshall offense, going2-for-4.  Michael Taylor only surrendered one hit and scattered four hits in five innings of work.

Logan Spurlin went 2-for-3 for the Norse, while Quint Heady finished 2-for-4 with a run.

Stafford and Chase Vogelbach each collected three hits and scored three runs in the opening game as the Thundering Herd cruised to a 9-0 victory.  Vogelbach also collected three RBIs.

Aaron Blair improved to 2-1 after pitching seven scoreless innings and only giving up three hits.  He collected five strikeouts while only walking two batters.

Hunter Morey finished the first game 2-for-4 with a stolen base, and Heady went 2-for-3.

Clement has reached base in each of NKU's games this season.  He drew two walks in the opener and was walked and hit by a pitch in the second game to extend his streak to 14.

The Norse travel to Cookeville, Tenn., to face Tennessee Tech for single games on Tuesday and Wednesday.  First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, with the start on Wednesday slated for 4 p.m.
