HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University men's cross country and track & field teams have added new faces for the 2013-14 campaign.
Blake Meyer, Keegan Raidt, and
Caleb Augustus will look to make an impact on head coach
Steve Kruse's team.
Blake Meyer is a distance runner from Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned a second place finish in the 5k with a time of 15:46.00 at the Les Eisenhart Invitational during his senior year. He has a personal best in the 800m of 2:04.
“Blake is another in a long list of NKU runners who have hailed from Oak Hills and the west side of Cincinnati,” said Kruse. “Blake is a very competitive athlete who takes his training seriously and should have no problem adjusting to the additional mileage next year.”
Meyer was a two-time captain of the cross country team. He was also a two-time best runner at Oak Hills. He was named to the All-City team in 2011 and 2012 and has been a two-time state qualifier. His personal best in the mile run is 4:37.
Keegan Raidt is a distance runner from Trinity High School in Louisville, Ky. He placed first in the 5K with a time of 16:07.28 during the Region 4 AAA finals earning him an appearance in the state competition. He has a personal best in the 1600m of 4:49.29, which he achieved at regional finals in Louisville, Ky.
“Keegan has a very competitive drive that helped him be a true leader at Trinity,” said Kruse.
Caleb Augustus is another distance runner from Northfield High School in Wabash, Ind. He ran a personal best in the 3200m of 9:36.31 during his junior season at the Indiana High School Athletic Association's State Championships.
“Coming from the northern reaches of Indiana, Caleb is used to some very tough competition,” said Kruse. “His coach states that Caleb got the maximum return on minimal training and will continue to improve at the collegiate level.”
Caleb's most frequented event is the 5k. He placed first and set a personal record of 16:01.37 during the regional championships his senior season. During his junior year at sectionals, he set a personal best in the 1600m of 4:36.17 which earned him a second-place finish.
The NKU men took a sixth-place result at the Atlantic Sun Conference cross country championship, while the track and field squad will be in action this weekend at the Hoosier Hills Invitational, hosted by Indiana University.
