James Cotton (left) has transferred to NKU for the upcoming season.
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University men's basketball head coach
Dave Bezold announced Thursday that he has added Maryland Eastern Shore transfer
James Cotton to the 2010-11 roster.
Cotton, a 6-foot-8 forward from Pocomoke City, Md., saw action in 19 games last season as a freshman for Maryland Eastern Shore. He started three times and averaged 2.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Cotton shot 44.1 percent from the field and collected 11 steals.
“James is an outstanding athlete who brings a great deal of versatility to our team,” Bezold said. “He plays with a lot of intensity and can really run the floor. He can help us right away because of his experience at the Division I level, and he was one of the nation's top 100 players while he attended prep school.”
Cotton played a year in prep school at Rise Academy (Pa.) and was rated 78th in Hoopscoop's ranking of the nation's top 100 fifth-year players. While at Rise Academy, Cotton averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per game.
Cotton joins an NKU program that posted a 17-13 record last season. The Norse also advanced to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
NKU knocked off eventual regional champion Saint Joseph's in the second round of the GLVC Tournament.
