INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Lakes Valley Conference has announced the team recipients of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee team sportsmanship awards for the winter and spring seasons, and Northern Kentucky University has received the honor for baseball.

The SAAC Sportsmanship Award is determined by votes of the GLVC member institutions' campus SAACs. The committees select their top three choices in each sport and base their decision on their view of sportsmanship.

NKU head coach Todd Asalon, assistant coach Dizzy Peyton and the entire Norse baseball team participated in the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation this year and adopted Zhauntez "T-Bird" Thornton. T-Bird is from Owensboro, Ky., and within the past few months completed his treatments at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and is now back home with his parents and three brothers in Owensboro.

Throughout his stay in Cincinnati, NKU baseball coaches and team members visited T-Bird many times and became T-Bird's "second" family. When he was released to go back home to Owensboro, the baseball team held a party for T-Bird at the bowling alley, and he was honored at an NKU home basketball doubleheader.
