HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University's
Kevin Jordan was named the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced on Monday. The selection highlighted an All-Midwest Region team that featured five NKU players.
Jordan earned a spot of the first team along with teammates
Shannon McCormick,
Jason Cisper and
Dave Middendorf while
Jeff Bohlen was chosen to the second team.
Jordan, a senior pitcher from Louisville, Ky., finished the season with an 8-3 record and a team-best 2.33 earned run average. Jordan broke his own record with 36 pitching appearances this spring and set an NKU single-season mark with 108 1/3 innings pitched. Jordan also struck out a team-leading 87 batters.
McCormick, a junior from Muncie, Ind., had a huge season at the plate, finishing second on the team with a .414 batting average. McCormick hit six home runs and was one of three players on the team to drive in 50 or more runs. His .632 slugging percentage led the Norse as well. McCormick was named first-team All-Region by Daktronics as well as All-GLVC.
Cisper, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, earned Daktronics Midwest Region and GLVC Player of the Year honors after leading the team with a .442 batting average and setting single-season school records for hits (102), runs scored (75), doubles (26) and total bases (144). Cisper also drove in 47 runs and led the team with 39 stolen bases.
Middendorf, a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, was the ace of the NKU starting rotation in 2010, going 8-2 on the year with a 2.64 ERA and 81 strikeouts on just 12 walks in 11 starts. Middendorf is a three-time All-GLVC honoree and has twice been named All-Region.
Bohlen, a senior from Chicago Heights, Ill., earned his first All-Region honor after hitting .381 on the season with four home runs and 53 RBIs. He hit 18 doubles and scored 39 runs, while 72 hits were second on the team. Bohlen earned his second All-GLVC honor this season.
NKU finished the 2010 season with a 43-17 record and a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
