MESA, Ariz. - Northern Kentucky University women's golfer
Lyndsey Bevill shot a 10-over-par 81 during the opening round of play at the NCAA Division II Championships on Wednesday and is tied for 39th place.
Bevill, a senior from Sanders, Ky., qualified for the national finals as an individual for the second straight year by tying for seventh place at the NCAA Division II East Regional. Maria Luz Besio of Newberry College shot an even-par 71 Wednesday and is atop the individual leaderboard after one round at the Longbow Golf Club.
Defending national champion Nova Southeastern is leading the team standings after the first round. The top-ranked Sharks shot an opening-round 298 (14-over-par) and have an eight-stroke lead over Rollins.
The 72-hole championship resumes Thursday and continues through Saturday.
